December 2009 update: Research and writing continues. Interview count is approaching 350 players, coaches and families involved with hockey in California as far back as the late 1930s. ... The issue now is how to assimilate all of this material into a book without it being the size of an encyclopedia.
Stay tuned for more progress reports, and for more frequent updates, check the blog, icingonthepond.wordpress.com, for updates!
Palm Trees and Frozen Ponds is a forthcoming book that examines California's growing impact on the world of hockey through the eyes of players, coaches and front-office personnel.
Check the hockey blog - icingonthepond.wordpress.com - for regular insights into the process of writing the book. I'll share tales of my dealings with players, coaches and administrators from the NHL, AHL, junior, college and youth ranks. While you're here, be sure to check out our hockey links.
Author Chris Bayee is a sports journalist with 20 years of daily newspaper and online writing and editing experience.

Four AHL All-Stars in 2008 were from California. They are (from left) Brett Sterling of Chicago, Gabe Gauthier of Manchester, and Bobby Ryan and Brian Salcido of Portland. Great work boys!
